Wedding Band Alternative

A Wedding Band Alternative That Keeps the Dancefloor Full.

Love the energy of live music but not sure a full band is right for your wedding? I'm Paul Martyn. I play live saxophone and sing over my own DJ set, so you get a live performance and any track you want, from one act. I'm based in Nottingham, play weddings across the UK and abroad, and bring full sound and lighting.

Live sax and DJ compared with a wedding band

Any song, the original sound

A band can only play the songs it has rehearsed. A DJ set can play any track in the version you love, with live sax and vocals on top.

A far wider range of music

A band's repertoire is limited to its line-up and rehearsed set. A DJ set can cover any genre and era, from Motown and disco classics to house and today's chart, all in one night.

No gaps in the music

Bands normally stop between sets. With the DJ set running underneath, the music carries on and the dancefloor doesn't empty.

Less space needed

One performer's setup fits where a four- or five-piece band can't, which helps in smaller rooms, marquees and venues with tight layouts.

One booking, one contact

One person to plan the music with, one setup to fit in, and one person to deal with on the day.

Why couples choose sax and DJ instead of a band

A live band brings real energy to a wedding, but it usually means several musicians to pay, a stage area to find and a fixed set list. Sax over a DJ set keeps that live feel, with Paul out on the dancefloor with your guests, while the DJ side gives you a far more diverse range of music than any band can play: your first dance can be the original recording, and the party can move from Motown and disco classics to house to today's chart hits.

Because it's one performer rather than a full line-up, it can also cost less than a comparable live band. The Party Package starts from £1,195 with full sound and lighting included, and you can see exactly what's in each option on the wedding saxophonist prices page.

Questions answered

Is sax and DJ a good alternative to a wedding band?

Yes. You still get live music, with Paul playing sax and singing throughout the party, but the DJ set means a much more diverse range of music, any song in its original version and no breaks between sets.

Is it cheaper than a wedding band?

It can be, because it's one performer rather than a full line-up. The Party Package, a 2-hour live sax and DJ set, starts from £1,195. Evening Plus is from £1,895 and the All-Day Wedding is from £2,995, all with full sound and lighting. Your final quote is confirmed once Paul has checked your date and location. See wedding saxophonist prices for what each package includes.

Will it still feel like live music?

Yes. Paul plays live sax and sings over the DJ set, out on the dancefloor with your guests, so the evening feels like a live show rather than a playlist.

Can we have the original version of our first dance?

Yes. Because the music runs through a DJ set, your first dance can be the original recording, or Paul can play it live on sax if you'd prefer.

How much space do you need?

Much less than a full band. Tell Paul about your venue when you enquire and he'll confirm the space and power needed.

Do you bring your own sound system and lighting?

Yes. Every package includes a full professional sound system and lighting rig, so there is nothing extra for you or your venue to source.
